OYSTER BAY, NY — Oyster Bay town officials want residents to remember to shop local ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, when hordes of people will flood stores to score steep discounts on everything from tools to toys.
Supervisor Joseph Saladino joined local business groups to remind neighbors about the benefits of buying from local businesses this holiday season.
Saladino called small businesses the "heartbeat of our local economy." Shopping locally strengthens downtown areas and keeps money in the area, supporting local jobs.
"With the holiday shopping season upon us, the Chambers of Commerce and Town of Oyster Bay remind residents that supporting downtown businesses makes our neighborhoods stronger by keeping downtown storefronts open," he said. "Additionally, local merchants often in turn reinvest in their local communities by supporting local community charities and sports organizations."
Saladino was joined at Sorelle Boutique by members of the Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce, an umbrella group representing over 40 Chambers of Commerce, as well as members of the Oyster Bay Chamber of Commerce and Oyster Bay Civic Association.
