BAYVILLE, NY — A body has been found inside a Bayville home that caught fire Wednesday, the second fatal fire in the village this week. Video posted on social media showed heavy orange flames and thick, black smoke billowing out of the windows and roof of the home on Bayville Avenue, near Garden Street.
Police confirmed to Patch that a working fire report came in around 3:30 p.m. at that address. After the Bayville Fire Department extinguished the flames investigators found the body of an unidentified person inside the home, police said.
No other fire-related injuries were reported. The cause of the blaze remains unknown.
Homicide, arson and the Nassau County Fire Marshal's office were investigating.
A man who answered the number listed for the Bayville Fire Department told Patch on Wednesday afternoon that details of surrounding the latest blaze weren't immediately available.
Bayville has been rocked by two fatal fires this week.
On Monday, Sonia Baron died and a man was critically hurt when flames swept through a home on Bayville Park Boulevard. Flames engulfed that home by the time firefighters arrived and two people were inside at the time. The man was found with serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
