BROOKLYN, NY — An e-bike rider died in South Slope after his brakes locked up and he was thrown underneath a van Friday, police said.
Peter Costello, 55, was riding a 2021 Zhejiang Jiajue along Fourth Avenue about 1:15 p.m. when the bike's brakes locked and he slid underneath a 2006 Ford Econoline van turning left onto 21st Street, according to the NYPD.
Emergency responders rushed Costello — who suffered head and body wounds — to Methodist Hospital, but doctors were unable to save his life, police said.
The van driver, 37, stayed at the scene and did not face any charges as of Monday morning, police said.
