EAST VILLAGE, NY — Bulletproof vests meant to go to Ukrainian medical workers were stolen by a group of thieves police have been unable to find for the past two months, according to the NYPD and multiple reports. Police released photos this weekend of suspects they believe stole 400 vests from a Ukrainian nonprofit at 203 Second Ave. in the East Village, on March 15, a press release shows. The group broke into the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America at about 2 p.m., then loaded 400 vests into three different cars over the span of two hours, police said. The vests were donated by local law enforcement agencies, meant for medics, humanitarian workers, and others who have chosen to fight back against the Russian military, not for Ukrainian soldiers, NBC4 reported.
