Description

Dr. Megan Murphy, chairperson of the grants committee of Salem Education Foundation, recently notified several Salem educators of their successful grant proposals to be funded by SEF. Beth White of the Early Childhood Center, in collaboration with Cindy Hatcher of Saltonstall, has developed an interactive scavenger hunt for all kindergarten families that introduces children to over 40 locations in the city, ranging from the mayor's office to the post office, and lots more. At each stop, scanning a QR code brings up a brief video to explain that spot. Fourth and fifth-graders at Bates School will now have a full classroom set of ukuleles, thanks to a grant proposal from music teacher, Ann Berman. Ms. Berman had previously received a partial classroom set of instruments through a previous grant from Salem Education Foundation. This grant allows her to purchase twelve more ukuleles. Students at Bates School will benefit from new recess equipment to encourage cooperative play due to a grant proposed by Nicole Corneau for interactive crafts and games. The grant will fund a range of supplies for indoor and outdoor activities. Congratulations to Mr. Drew Betts at Salem Academy Charter School. He is leading a fitness initiative with all SACS students. Funding from SEF will pay a portion of the online tracker subscription. Salem Education Foundation aims to cultivate a love of learning across the community. We fund the joy!
