Learning Your Rights to Photograph and Record in Public Whether you are a professional journalist/photographer or a passerby when an accident or other event occurs, you do have rights. Mickey H. Osterreichter, general counsel for the National Press Photographers Association and the lawyer who has handled cases for photographers wrongly arrested will be present to explain those rights and answer your questions. Osterreichter is an award-winning photojournalist, a uniformed reserve deputy sheriff with the Erie County Sheriff’s Office (NY). He has been an adjunct professor in photojournalism and media and the law.
