GREEN BAY, WI — The former owner of a dog who was recently left tied to a fire hydrant in Green Bay is speaking out.
The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, told Action 2 News that giving up her dog, named Baby Girl, was a last resort and "the hardest thing I've ever done."
A Green Bay resident posted photos May 1 on Facebook of the animal tied to the hydrant and added that she sat with the dog for an hour but no one came to claim the pet. Baby Girl, a 6-year-old mixed-breed dog, was placed in the care of the Wisconsin Humane Society.
The former owner said she had been living on the street and that she was undergoing chemotherapy, according to Action 2 News, making it difficult for her to care for the dog. She said she had been unable to find a place to surrender Baby Girl, so she left the dog with her favorite toys and food at the hydrant, and watched as police picked up the animal, Action 2 News reported.
