MADISON, NJ — COVID-19 cases in Madison have increased in the last month, according to the Borough of Madison, and this trend is expected to continue. In the last fourteen days, 33 confirmed positive tests have been performed and reported to the Madison Health Department, compared to 18 confirmed positive tests reported to the Madison Health Department at this time last month. Madison saw a total of 99 reported cases in April, an increase from the 48 reported cases in March. The state's average number of daily confirmed cases is also up 20 percent from a week ago and 133 percent from a month ago. The transmission rate in Morris County is currently 1.2. According to the Health Department, Morris County had an average of 129 daily reported cases over the last two weeks. New Jersey had 592 hospitalizations on average over the last two weeks, a 28 percent increase from the previous two weeks. With the increase in COVID-19 activity, the Health Department is encouraging residents to test early if they develop signs or symptoms of COVID-19. Statewide, daily vaccinations averaged 12.2K a day, which is down from 15K a day four weeks ago. "As the best tool to minimize infection, severe disease, hospitalization and death due to COVID-19 remains vaccination, all eligible residents aged 5 years and older should receive their primary COVID-19 vaccine and stay up to date with all recommended booster doses. Visit our vaccine page for more information," Madison officials said. The vaccine is currently being distributed by Atlantic Health and retail pharmacies such as Walgreens and CVS. The Madison Health Department will hold clinics as COVID-19 vaccine supplies allow. Thank you for reading! Have a news tip, correction or comment? Email [email protected].
