We're back this year and ready to show off 11 select gardens for 2022!
Mark your calendars for this year's Garden Tour hosted by the Polk County Master Gardeners. After a 4-year hiatus we are itching to get out and go green. There will be 11 extraordinary gardens on display by both Master Gardeners and Garden Enthusiast across Urbandale, Clive, Des Moines, and Ankeny.
All locations will be disclosed on the day of the event to discourage interested participants from prematurely viewing the gardens. Select gardens based on your nearest location, pick your favorites from the provided pictures and short descriptions (garden preview website provided below), or aim to see them all! During your tour you will have the opportunity to see:
• Massive backyard produce gardens
• A permaculture style garden that's restoring the newly stripped topsoil
• Beekeeping coupled with wildflowers galore
• Horticulturist inspired dinosaur-themed flower beds and the only "living dinosaur" in Iowa
• Zone pushing cactus and magnolias recognized by the Magnolia Society International
• A land revival garden that could win a neighborhood blue ribbon
• Personal rain gardens funded by Des Moines' rain garden campaign
• Private homes providing public produce for those in need
Some homes have one large singular garden and others have a collection of garden spaces, but they all emulate an eye for detail, a creative mind, and a sense of whimsy. Each space will share insight into each gardener's unique personalities through an expression of living art that will inspire fellow gardeners and lovers of nature.
