Northport Senior Student-Athletes Recognized In Awards Ceremony

NORTHPORT, NY — Local senior student-athletes were recognized by their team coaches and earned awards for their hard work and dedication to Northport Athletics, as Northport-East Northport's Physical Education/Athletic Leaders Club held its third annual NESPY Awards Ceremony on Thursday, the school district announced in a news release. The NESPY's, inspired by the ESPY's, or Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly, was held virtually this year due to the coronavirus outbreak. However, it did not disappoint. Following opening remarks and a beautifully sung rendition of the National Anthem by Bella Donneruno, the program included special recognitions such as the Suffolk Zone High School Physical Education Leadership Award, Town of Huntington Scholar Athlete Award and Northport High School Rotary Club "Student of the Month" award. In addition to presenting awards, Northport High School coaches shared fond moments and memories from years of coaching the graduating athletes. "Please know that no matter where you go, no matter where you are, you will always be a Northport Tiger and Northport will always be there for you," Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics Mark Dantuono said.
