NORTHPORT, NY — The 2020-2021 school year at the Northport-East Northport Union Free School District kicked off with happy students and eager parents, the district stated in a news release. Thursday and Friday marked the days for students returning to school under the district's hybrid instructional model; made necessary by the coronavirus pandemic. Half the students began Thursday, and the remaining students settled in on Friday.
"Students arrived and even through their masks, the excitement and joy of being reunitedwith friends and teachers was evident," the district stated.
Students were immediately welcomed by teachers and school staff, who directed them to their classrooms and walked them through the new school protocols. From little ones showing off their first day outfits to sixth and ninth graders becoming acquainted with their new buildings, every student showed enthusiasm for the return.
"We're incredibly proud of our students and their resilience as they head into this new year," superintendent Robert Banzer said. "We know that things may look different, but the energy and excitement of first day is exactly the same."
