Press release from Richland County School District Two:
May 6, 2022
Richland School District Two is proud to announce the graduations of the second cohort of Richland Two AVID Early College students from Ridge View High School.
Twelve students have worked diligently over the past four years to earn their high school diplomas and Associate's degrees from district partner, the University of South Carolina-Sumter.
District AVID Coordinator Jeffrey McMicken said this cohort has been in a uniquely challenging position. "They have all been caught in the midst of continuing to deal with the present as well as thinking about the future during the previous two most challenging years we have ever had to face in education. They persevered and each has saved at least $25,376, thus totaling more than $304,512 in tuition savings for the entire group," said McMicken.
Degrees for the following students were conferred on UofSC-Sumter's campus on May 4, 2022 and high school diplomas will be awarded June 2, 2022 at noon at Colonial Life Arena: Last year, there were 20 students in the first cohort at the AVID Early College who graduated with college degrees and high school diplomas. The Richland Two AVID Early College program is available each year only to rising 8th grade students across the district. There is an application and acceptance process.
More information can be found on the district's website.
