Press release from the City of Omaha: May 6, 2022 A grant program that empowers neighborhoods to innovate and collaborate will fund dozens of community improvement projects in 2022. Mayor Jean Stothert awarded neighborhood grants to 28 community and neighborhood organizations for a total of $89,916. Nine grants will fund community gardens and other neighborhood food distribution programs. "Community gardens are very popular and worthwhile," said Mayor Stothert. "We have seen the many benefits of these food programs during the pandemic, and providing funding to expand and continue is a good neighborhood investment." Neighborhood grants are awarded each spring to qualifying organizations. This year, 59 grant applications were received. Applications are reviewed by a committee and recommended to the Mayor. The committee includes representatives from the Planning, Parks, Public Works, and Police Departments, and Omaha Community Foundation. "Congratulations to the recipients and thank you for taking such great pride in your neighborhoods. Our city is better because of your hard work," said Mayor Stothert.
