PHILADELPHIA — A puppy was stolen from then returned to the Pennsylvania SPCA Sunday, and now two women have been charged, according to the organization.
A small, female white terrier mix named Wendy was taken from her kennel at about 2:19 p.m.
The SPCA said Jacquelyn Gregory, 32, and Peggy Cohen, 56, both of Pottstown, have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
The two are charged with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, conspiracy, and cruelty to animals.
The group said the woman put Wendy, who was already adopted by family and was being held for spay surgery, in her purse and left the facility.
However, the SPCA said at about 9 p.m. Sunday Wendy had been returned.
After alerting the public to Wendy being taken and issuing photos and videos of the suspect, the person involved was identified and Wendy was taken to the Philadelphia Police Department.
Police brought Wendy to the SPCA where it was confirmed through microchip scan to be Wendy.
Cohen was relaesed on $10,000 unsecured bail and Gregory were released on her own recognizance.
