NORTHPORT, NY — A Northport Village resident and United States veteran received a nice surprise when the New York Mets featured him as the team's Veteran of the Game on Sunday. Scott Gibney's military career was highlighted during the SNY broadcast when the Mets played their crosstown rivals, the New York Yankees. Gibney, a U.S. Navy captain, served overseas in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom and Desert Storm. He received two Meritorious Service Medals, a Navy Commendation Medal, two Navy Achievement Medals, a National Defense Service Medal, and Naval Overseas Service Ribbon.
