PORTLAND, OR — A man is recovering in a local hospital after being robbed and attacked with a hammer near the Oregon Convention Center late Saturday afternoon, according to Portland police. The attack happened on the I-84 overpass by S.E. Grand Avenue, police said.
Luke Joel Andrade, 28, is in the Multnomah County Detention Center after being arrested and charged with first-degree robbery second-degree assault, menacing, unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated assault, according to court records.
Police said that when officers arrived on scene around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, they found the victim in a pool of blood with cuts and stab wounds. While hospitalized, the man is expected to make a full recovery, according to police, who did not release any more details about the victim.
Witnesses told police that they heard the suspect demanding the victim turn over his wallet and coat, police said. They added that the witnesses were able to provide a good description.
Officers also recovered a bloody hammer that they said was used in the attack.
Police said that an officer saw the man enter the Convention Center. While some officers surrounded the building, another contacted security inside, giving them a description of the person.
The man was spotted leaving and police said that they were able to take him into custody without incident.
