BERKELEY, CA — The master keys to a UC Berkeley apartment complex were stolen Friday, leaving the residents of nearly 1,000 units at risk, KRON reports. University Village apartments student residents received emails around 7:20 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. about the missing keys, a university official said the television station. The email confirms "a theft of a UVA key box containing master keys to the entire Village," according to the report. The university's plans to replace all locks could take weeks, according to the report. So for now residents of 974-unit building that sits in a 58-acre parcel in Albany are being advised to add door chair guards, doorstops, campus officials said in the email to students, according to the report. A similar incident occurred in 2020, in which master keys from the same complex were stolen, according to the report. In one of the emails, students were offered reimbursement for the cost of changing their locks or a hotel stay, the report said. Read more at KRON
