JAMAICA, QUEENS — Two police officers shot in the line of duty this week were discharged from the hospital just in time for Thanksgiving.
NYPD Officer Joseph Murphy was shot in both hands and Officer Christopher Wells was shot in the leg Tuesday afternoon while helping a Queens woman who had just reported her husband for domestic violence, authorities said.
The officers were rushed to Jamaica Hospital, where they both underwent surgery.
"We could not be more proud of the job they did here in extreme circumstances," Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said. "They have a long recovery ahead, but we're hopeful that they have a full recovery — and one step at a time. We're just thankful that they get home with their beautiful families."
The woman's husband, 41-year-old CUNY peace officer Rondell Goppy, was killed in the shootout.
