NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A New Rochelle Fire Department deputy chief, in the hospital for almost two months after becoming infected with the new coronavirus, received cheers and applause from fellow first responders when he was wheeled out of Danbury Hospital on a gurney Friday. John Reed, who lives in Dutchess County, will be recovering in a rehab facility. He was hospitalized with COVID-19 April 2, the Journal News reported. Reed became infected with the virus in late March. Earlier that month, New Rochelle was thrust into the spotlight when it was declared the first coronavirus hotspot country. Firefighters say it "feels like a miracle."https://t.co/rWvJyT66gm— News12HV (@News12HV) May 30, 2020 More than 50 doctors and nurses joined in celebrating Reed's discharge from the hospital.
