Rehoming Elderly Cat

Description
We are looking to rehome our 19-year-old cat because we’re moving across the country. We’re heartbroken about exploring this option because we’re strongly connected to him. We’re concerned that he’d need to be sedated for a move and he might not survive that stress on his body, which is the reason that we’re wondering if there’s anyone in search of an elderly cat. Fair warning: he’s high maintenance. He would like to be an indoor/outdoor cat, but since we live within city limits, we’ve kept him inside for most of his life. He likes to go out onto our deck and sun himself, and if our front door is accidentally left open, he’ll wander and explore for an hour or so before coming back to the comfortable couch. When he’s had access to the outdoors, he will usually potty outside. He’s prissy about having a clean litter box, and he’s peed on rugs (we’ve gotten rid of all of our rugs because of his naughty behavior). He can be loudly insistent when he thinks it’s time for him to eat, and he’s not strong enough to jump up on a counter to get to food and water, so he’s had his food on the floor for the past several years. He’s also fickle with his food interests, sometimes happy with what’s put in front of him and sometimes quite finnicky, but he’ll often settle into a particular brand for months on end. Now for the positives: he’s a wonderful snuggler (he will lay on your lap or your stomach if you’re reclining and purr for hours), and he can sleep through ANYTHING. We’ve fostered many, many kittens, and his reaction to them has ranged from indifference to furtive affection (when he thinks we’re not looking). He lived for ~12 years with a lovely Lab mix, so he’s fine with dogs. He preens when you pet him, just a sponge for affection, happy to bask in the glow of being the center of your world. We’ll find a way to get him to the East Coast if we’re not able to rehome him, but we thought we’d see if there’s a special someone in Northern Colorado who’d be willing to give this old guy a home.
