NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle school district identified 29 students who were in contact with someone who tested positive for the new coronavirus. Interim Superintendent Alex Marrero said in a letter to the community that, consistent with the Westchester County Department of Health guidelines, the students are in quarantine for 14 days. Marrero said, prior to be notified of the exposure, 12 of the students had reported to district schools Monday for the start of Phase 1 of its hybrid learning model. "Once the district was notified, the students were isolated and sent home from school," he said. Their families were contacted by the nursing staff and instructed to remain home until further notice. All impacted students were told to continue learning virtually until cleared to return to in-person instruction. "We are certain that this exposure did not occur in any our school buildings," Marrero said. "Classmates of those now on quarantine are considered 'contacts of a contact' and it is not necessary to close any classrooms or school buildings at this time."
