NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The City School District of New Rochelle said Saturday that an Albert Leonard Middle School teacher tested positive for the new coronavirus. In an email to the community, interim Superintendent Dr. Alex Marrero said the teacher was last in the building Tuesday, Oct. 27. He said, at this time, the district has identified seven teachers and five Cohort A classes that were potentially exposed. "The students in Cohort B will NOT require quarantine at this time," Marrero said. "The district is working to identify any additional contacts who will require a 14-day quarantine." Cohort A students will revert to remote learning for Monday, Nov. 2. Follow-up communications will be sent Monday as the district works with the Westchester County Department of Health and the district's Health Services Department to ID and track all school-related contacts. Additionally, the custodial staff will do a deep cleaning of the building. Marrero said that all students and staff who came in contact with the teacher during their potentially infectious period, which is about 48 hours before the onset of symptoms, will be notified by district staff. They will need to remain in quarantine until further notice from the county or state departments of health. Once all individuals are identified, their names will be shared with the county department of health to comply with the state contact tracing process. Impacted students are expected to resume remote instruction at this time and staff members will remain at home throughout their quarantine. A release from isolation or quarantine is required by the district before anyone can be readmitted to the building following coronavirus infection or exposure.
