NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle school officials notified the community Thursday that a student at Columbus Elementary tested positive fo the new coronavirus. Interim Superintendent Dr. Alex Marrero said the Cohort A student was last in the building Monday, Nov. 2. The student's classmates as well as two teachers and one support staff member were impacted by this exposure, he said. All individuals who came into contact with the student during the potentially infectious period — beginning 48 hours prior to the onset of symptoms — were notified by district staff about their possible exposure Wednesday night and stayed home Thursday. They will not be permitted back into the school building until further notice from the county or state departments of health. Cohort B students who have the same teacher as the student who tested positive are being taught entirely remotely until the teacher is cleared to return. Other classes are not impacted. In addition, school officials said the custodial staff conducted a deep cleaning of the one classroom. Like Hudson Valley Patches' Facebook Pages.
