NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A 17-year-old was accused of menacing two people with a handgun in New Rochelle. Shortly before 1 p.m. Monday, New Rochelle police officers were sent to the intersection of Coligni Avenue and Mt. Joy Place for a report of someone menacing others with a handgun. Police found that a silver semi-automatic handgun had been displayed by the 17-year-old to an adult and a child in a menacing manner. The teen then fled the scene as a passenger in a blue Jeep Suburban, police said. He was stopped shortly afterward in a taxi in Mount Vernon, where he was arrested by Mount Vernon police. A handgun was recovered at the time of his arrest, police said. He was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor. The teen was also charged by New Rochelle police with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree menacing, misdemeanors. Police said that, due to "Raise the Age" laws, the 17-year-old was charged as a juvenile delinquent and the case will be adjudicated in family court. Like Hudson Valley Patches' Facebook Pages.
