Description

When we can share our stories, listen to each other, feel heard, empathize and unify around common experiences and emotions, we can heal. Project HIV.E (HIV Education & Empowerment), led by the South LA cohort, has partnered with the Foundation for the AIDS Monument (FAM). We are excited to announce that our inaugural “STORIES Circle” event, entitled Resilience + Repairing, Memoirs Untold, will occur at the Magic Johnson Recreational Area (John Hall Building), located at 905 E. El Segundo Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90059 on May 19th, 2022, from 6 pm-8 pm. Parking is free and is located to your right as you enter the Recreational Area off El Segundo Blvd. We are looking for 48 participants- community members, survivors, activists, caregivers, community organizers, political leaders, and those who lost loved ones – to gather in 8 separate circles of 6 people, each with one facilitator to lead the circle and to share their personal stories about HIV & AIDS. Each participant will have five (5) minutes to tell their story, followed by five (5) minutes for the other participants in the same circle to react and discuss the story. Capturing the stories shared in these STORIES Circles is one of the primary ways the South LA cohort ensures our individual and collective experiences during the AIDS pandemic are never forgotten. Each STORIES Circle will have one (1) hour of storytelling. Our partners at FAM will record the event, and press might be present at the event (but your individual stories will NOT be recorded). By attending the event, you are consenting to being photographed. STORIES Circles will become a regular event that builds community among those affected by HIV & AIDS and expands awareness of STORIES: The AIDS Monument. Our event will involve free HIV testing, referrals to resources such as PrEP & PEP, and education for future generations through lessons learned. We invite you to join in the storytelling at our STORIES Circle event on May 19th, 2022.
