NEW HYDE PARK, NY — Arson investigators are probing a house fire that ignited Tuesday morning in New Hyde Park. Police were called to a Hillside Boulevard home around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday as heavy smoke billowed out of a third-floor window, Nassau County police said. Police kicked in a rear door and safely evacuated six people and a dog who were inside on the second floor. No one was hurt. The county Fire Marshal's Office was sent to the house as well as firefighters from Floral Park, South Floral, Floral Park Center, New Hyde Park, Garden City Park, Mineola and Manhasset departments. A dozen fire apparatus were sent to the blaze, as well as 75 firefighters. The building sustained heavy to moderate damage. An investigation remains ongoing. Photos taken at the home showed heavy damage to the upper floors. Firefighters stretched a ladder from a fire truck to the top level.
