NEW HYDE PARK, NY — Two people are dead following a fiery crash this week on the Long Island Expressway in New Hyde Park. A pickup truck smashed into the back of a tractor-trailer near Exit 34 around 3 p.m. Thursday, police said. The pickup burst into flames and two passengers who were trapped inside died of their injuries. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and the Nassau County fire marshal's office was sent to the wreck. The bodies were taken to the medical examiner's office. No one else was hurt. The names of the victims are being withheld while the investigation continues.
