WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – Western Springs experienced the most new coronavirus cases in a week since February, according to the Cook County Public Health Department. As of Sunday, the village saw 3,056 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, with 48 new cases in the last week. The previous week, the village saw 34 cases. For four weeks last June and July, the village's coronavirus case count did not budge. On April 1, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office stopped counting the number of coronavirus deaths by municipality. At last count, the number was six. The figure compares to 190 in Darien, 193 in Hinsdale, 209 in DuPage County, 216 in Elmhurst and suburban Cook County, 225 in La Grange Park, 229 in Clarendon Hills, and 234in La Grange. As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 3,169,315, a hike of 1 percent, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 33,660. Nationally, 81.7 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, an increase of 0.7 percent in the last week, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 995,823 people have died from the virus in the United States.
