ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — Rockland County's death toll from COVID-19 rose past 700 this week as health officials added five more deaths to the coronavirus pandemic's 10-month total on Wednesday and then three more. The county was tracking 1,828 active cases of coronavirus as of Wednesday. As of Friday the active case count had jumped to 1,953. From 699 on Monday, the toll rose first to 704 then to 707 on Wednesday, where it remained Friday. The number of people hospitalized in Rockland with severe COVID-19 dropped, to 60 from 63 confirmed or suspected cases on Wednesday, and then to 53 confirmed or suspected cases as of Friday. All but one county in the Hudson region have coronavirus positivity rates above 4 percent.
