MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL — A student in Miami-Dade County Public Schools has tested positive for the coronavirus, according to the county's coronavirus dashboard, which showed one positive case at William Lehman Elementary School on Thursday.
In a news release, M-DCPS said the student has been instructed to stay home until the county's health department determines it's safe to return to the classroom.
People who have had contact with the student were also instructed to self-isolate, according to the release.
The school district said William Lehman Elementary was sanitized Thursday morning and students and parents were notified about the positive test result.
The school district later told Patch by email that the student did not contract the virus at school, which was cleaned early Thursday morning with electrostatic equipment and sanitizing chemicals.

In the release, the school urged anyone feeling unwell to stay home and reminded parents to complete the at-home health checklist with their children each morning. School staff are also required to undergo a health screening before work each day.
