Learn how to safely identify, forage, and prepare pokeweed shoots and other wild plants in spring.
Join us for an interpretive walk where participants will learn how to safely identify, forage, and prepare pokeweed shoots and other wild spring vegetables on the grounds of the Theosophical Society!
We will meet at 10am in the Sustain DuPage Garden, west of the Theosophical Society's main building. Participants will be able to gather, prepare, boil, and sample cooked pokeweed shoots, as well as take home a jar of pickled pokeweed. Sterilized bags and containers will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own as well.
Please bring:
Clothes and shoes appropriate for walking in potentially wet and muddy natural areas Writing materials if you would like to take notesThe event will be led by Sustain DuPage's Community Cooking Organizer David Bravos. Note: This event will be limited to 18 participants. This is an outdoor event, and may be canceled and refunded in the event of inclement weather. Pokeweed should always be cooked, and harvested when young.
