MIAMI, FL — A precautionary boil water order is in place for four downtown Miami buildings after a water main break near Southeast 3rd Street and Biscayne Boulevard on Wednesday, according to a news release from Miami-Dade County.
The following addresses are affected by the order:
Met 1, 300 S Biscayne Blvd.Muze, 340 SE 3rd StreetSouth East Financial, 200 S Biscayne Blvd.Citi Group Center, 201 S Biscayne Blvd. Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department staff completed repairs to the broken 12-inch water main by 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the department tweeted. To facilitate the repairs, water service had to be temporarily shut off to the four affected buildings.
Now that water service has been restored to these properties, residents and businesses should boil their water prior to consumption, the county said. This includes drinking, cooking, brushing their teeth, making ice or washing dishes with it. All tap water used for these activities should be brought to a full rolling boil for at least one minute until further notice. The water can still be used for bathing and other household needs.
The precautionary boil water order will be lifted once samples show compliant results for two consecutive days, the county said.
Residents and businesses in other buildings in the area that aren't impacted by the precautionary boil water order might notice that their water appears cloudy or discolored, the county added. This temporary, cosmetic change occurred when water and sewer crews isolated the water pipes prior to shutting off service to the affected buildings.
The fluctuating water pressures disturbed the calcium carbonate in the pipes, which can cause cloudy water. Customers can let the water run for three to five minutes until it runs clear, the county said.
