An evening honoring and continuing the legacy of Dr. E. Bruce Elliston
The Rotary Club of Asheville Breakfast Foundation, Inc. is proud to announce the establishment of the Dr. E. Bruce Elliston Education Endowment. Before his untimely death in February 2020, Dr. Elliston bequeathed $25,000 to our Rotary foundation. His gift is being used to start the endowment. Once fully funded, need based scholarships will be awarded to students from Western North Carolina pursuing studies in the sciences. Our goal, with your support, is to fund a $250,000 endowment.
Dr. Elliston was an innovator and visionary in family practice and one of the initial attending physicians in the new specialty of Family Practice where he served for over thirty years. He became the first faculty member of the Mountain Area Health Education Center Residency Program (MAHEC) in 1976. He established Asheville Family Health Center in 1978 and co-founded other wellness enterprises. Organizations close to Dr. Elliston include Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry (ABCCM), the North Carolina Arboretum, Pisgah Legal Services, the Nature Conservancy, and The Henry’s Fork Foundation in Idaho. He was a founder and charter member of the Asheville Breakfast Rotary Club.
