Samahang Pilipino’s 50th Anniversary Gala ‘Sulok ng Ating Mundo’ (Our Corner of the World) May 28, 2022 at 5pm - Ackerman Grand Ballroom To our family, friends, and community, We cordially invite you to Samahang Pilipino’s 50th Anniversary Gala ‘Sulok ng Ating Mundo’ (Our Corner of the World), celebrating the victories that have occurred throughout the past 50 years and counting. The gala will take place on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 5pm in Ackerman Grand Ballroom at UCLA. Join us for a community celebration featuring Samahang alumni speakers, performances from our SPCN’s dance troupe, Alab ng Puso, food from Park’s Finest, and fun and dance! This is a black tie event, so please celebrate and dress for the occasion. Samahang Pilipino at UCLA was founded in 1972 to address the social, political, and academic needs of the Pilipinx/Pilipinx-American community and serve as a bridge to our cultural roots. Our mission to “actively engage and develop student leaders to organize, advocate, and provide services for themselves and the community” has brought about many victories as an organization through the different entities that all work to serve the community which include our board, retention and outreach projects, cultural night, and gender and sexuality component. In creating a culture on campus where Pilipinx-identifying students can find a place to call home, Samahang Pilipino has transformed the Pilipinx/Pilipinx-American community into one with a foundation built on our core values: one family, social justice, relevant education, critical approach, and collectivism. The 50th year of Samahang Pilipino has showcased the resilience of our community through the ongoing pandemic. Samahang has successfully returned to in-person events and services, providing counseling services and mentorship through SPEAR to our currently enrolled UCLA students and outreaching to over 150+ SPACE students. SPCN 45 will produce its first in-person show since 2019, also celebrating an important milestone in our cultural night’s history. Kabalikat Kore is hosting the Queer BIPOC conference at UCLA for the first time and established its first ever board. Samahang’s Board has established the first Alumni Advisory Board, including five alumni who have provided guidance during this transition period; this Alumni Advisory Board is set to continue from here on out. This year also marks the 30th Pilipinx Graduation ceremony, which will be back in Royce Hall to celebrate our graduating students. 50 years have passed and Samahang Pilipino continues to be a tight-knit, culturally-based advocacy organization specializing in grassroots organizing around the Pilipinx/Pilipinx-American community issues at UCLA and the greater Los Angeles area. To celebrate this milestone and our accomplishments of this entire year, Samahang Pilipino is hosting our 50th Anniversary Gala, Sulok ng Ating Mundo. In honor of the 50th Anniversary, we will be raising money to establish a Samahang Pilipino Scholarship Program, also known as the SamaScholarship Program. As part of our commitment to the incoming and general members of Samahang Pilipino at UCLA, we hope that this scholarship will support Pilipinx student success and retention by alleviating part of the financial burden that UCLA places on our students. More information will be sent via email to attendees and on our social media channels. At the event, attendees will be provided more information on how to pledge money toward the SamaScholarship. Our corner of the world may be small, but we have 50 years of community, family, and love that makes the Samahang Pilipino community the largest home you will ever find. Together, we will celebrate the community we have built and look forward to our family growing and our corner of the world becoming bigger in the upcoming years. Isang Bagsak! These sponsorships range in amount and will include tickets, promotion at the event, and t-shirts! The shirts will be embroidered with the 50th Anniversary logo, and you have until 5/6 @11:59pm to pre-order for $18. Shirts will be available for $20 after this form closes. Pickup date TBD at UCLA and Westwood ONLY.
