Coronavirus: Rockland Schools Start Free/Reduced Price Meal Plans

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — Planning began immediately in Rockland's school districts for alternatives to their free-and-reduced-price lunch programs after schools across New York state were closed to help slow the spread of the new coronavirus. Information has been compiled from each school district's website as of March 16. The work is being done by Rockland County Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, coordinated by the United Way of Rockland. That's a coalition that collaboratively plans, coordinates, and implements disaster/emergency preparedness and response. Patch will keep updating this information. East Ramapo Food will be distributed every day school is closed, beginning Wednesday for the District's students who currently participate in the free and reduced-price lunch program. "Pack and Pickup" breakfast and lunch will be available between 8- 10 a.m. every day. Breakfast and lunch may be picked up together, one time per day, at any of the 16 Food Bank locations. In addition, for those students who do not have access to technology, handouts listing educational activities will be available at the Food Bank locations. From Wednesday through Friday, there will be 16 Food Bank locations. At each, there will be a parked school bus with a table outside of the bus. A family member may pick up food and take it home to the student. Any individual picking up food will be required to sign a form. There will be no charge for the food. Anyone who is in self-quarantine may not visit any Food Bank location. Food Bank Locations for Wednesday through Friday: 1. Spring Valley Police Headquarters in the parking lot 2. Provident Field parking lot3. Brick House Church Road @ Hempstead Road in lot4. New Hempstead Road @ Oakwood Terrace5. Hillcrest Shopping Center on West Eckerson Road6. Hilltop Shopping Center at the intersection of Slinn Avenue and Ewing Avenue7. East Eckerson across from Headden Drive at the public bus stop8. Union Road at the Park Towers Apartments9. Union Road at Twin Avenue10. Union Road at Gessner Terrace11. West Clarkstown Road at Mary Anne Drive (next to the Deli)12. Mount Ivy Trailer Park13. Quaker Road Mobile Home Park14. Kennedy Drive at Secora Road15. Division Street at Main Street16. Chestnut Ridge Middle School (there will not be a bus at this location - it will be in the parking lot) Haverstraw Stony Point The North Rockland Central School District will have four locations throughout the school community for daily meal distribution. Beginning on Wednesday, families can pick up meals at any of the four designated locations. The buildings for meal distribution are: James A. Farley Elementary School (Stony Point)Haverstraw Elementary School (Village of Haverstraw)North Rockland High School (Thiells)West Haverstraw Elementary School (Village of West Haverstraw)These meal distribution locations will be open Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and noon. Bagged meals including lunch for that day and breakfast for the following morning will be available for pickup in the front of the building. South Orangetown Food Service will begin March 23. Details to be announced. Pearl River During this time of school closure, we will continue to provide food for those students who are eligible for free/reduced lunch effective Thursday. Students who currently receive free/reduced lunch will be able to pick up a bagged breakfast and lunch at Pearl River High School Pirate Cove between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Suffern Our food service provider Aramark and Chestnut Ridge Transportation have worked out a system that, starting later in the week, will provide meals for our students who utilize our free and reduced lunch program and a separate communication will be sent to those families. As our outreach is limited to servicing school-age children, if you know of families who need food for their entire family please encourage them to reach out to Sloatsburg Food Pantry at 914-393-3160 or 201-394-0627. They do not need to live in Sloatsburg. Rockland BOCES For Rockland BOCES and out-of-district students who regularly receive breakfast and lunch on a typical school day, please visit the website of your home school district for specific information on meal access and distribution locations. Rockland BOCES will provide to each district a list of students eligible for free and reduced meals. Nyack Starting March 23, students who currently receive free/reduced lunch will be able to pick up abagged breakfast and lunch at the Nyack Center, Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Clarkstown Details to be announced.
