Description

Orientation for new and existing California State Park volunteers to support Empire Mine SHP, South Yuba River SP & Malakoff Diggins SHP. Western Nevada County is home to three beautiful and unique State Parks – Empire Mine State Historic Park, South Yuba River State Park and Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park. These three parks protect and preserve an unparalleled collection of culturally and environmentally sensitive structures and habitats, threatened plant and animal species, Native American sites, historic structures and artifacts, and more. They are also important sanctuaries where we can all take time out to enjoy nature, relax and revitalize. With record attendance over the last two years, our parks need volunteers now more than ever. On May 7th or 17th, Sierra Gold Parks Foundation (SGPF) along with California State Parks will host two upcoming Volunteer Orientations for new and existing California State Parks volunteers at Empire Mine State Historic Park in Grass Valley. These two Volunteer Orientations are an excellent time for you to meet park staff, learn about each park and how the stories of the parks are interpreted to visitors, and hear about the many volunteer opportunities to help protect and preserve our local State Parks. The day includes lunch and snacks, a private experience at the park, and a complimentary mini lantern for your next outdoor adventure. Pre-registration required. New park volunteers are required to be fingerprinted. The cost is anticipated to be $30, but is good in perpetuity while volunteering for California State Parks in Nevada County.
