Description
Rare Original IVER ROSE early 20th century painting "The Grocer". Framed under glass and signed along the lower left-hand edge, this gouache painting is by the well-known Rockport, Massachusetts Artist, Iver Rose (1899-1972). He was born in Chicago, and studied at the Hull House, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Cincinnati Art Academy. During the Great Depression of the 1930's, Iver Rose was an easel painter under the auspices of the WPA and during this period his work reflected a Social Realist tone. He exhibited paintings at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Carnegie Institute. He held studios in both New York City and in Rockport, Massachusetts, where he was a rare figural artist member of the Rockport Art Association. Measuring 24.5” high x 14" wide under glass, this painting is displayed in its original decoratively carved and painted 31” high x 20.75" wide x 1.5" deep wood frame. The condition of the painting, glass, and frame is excellent. Would be magnificent for any home, but especially stunning displayed in a restaurant, market, or food-related establishment. $1,825.00
