CORRECTION: New York State police initially reported that Robert H. Harrington was ejected from his vehicle after striking the guardrail. After further investigation, it was determined that he was not ejected, state police said Tuesday.
Police are requesting that anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or had contact with Harrington prior to his death, to contact Investigator Eric Haydt, SP Hawthorne, at 845-364-9424.
SLOATSBURG, NY — A Massachusetts man was run over by a tractor trailer after a crash in his Jeep on the New York State Thruway Saturday night.
State police were called to I-87 near mile marker 331 at 11:18 p.m. Their preliminary investigation concluded that that Robert H. Harrington, 45, of Waltham, Massachusetts, was driving his 2019 Jeep southbound when he struck the guardrail.
Harrington was struck by a 2019 Freightliner.
The driver of the tractor trailer, Robin Carroll, 63, of Albany, New York, was not injured.
Spring Hill EMS and medic 23 were on scene, according to Rockland Fires. Harrington was pronounced dead at the scene by the Rockland County Medical Examiner.
Traffic was diverted around the scene using the ramps through the Ramapo Service Area while the accident was reconstructed by the New York State Police Troop F Collision Reconstruction Unit. The Troop F Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit also responded to the scene to assist Tarrytown troopers with the investigation.
