Description

NANUET, NY — 'Tis the season for giving back to your community. There are a number of ways that you and your family can help out and help others. Every day through Christmas, Patch will be highlighting a way you can provide compassion and resources to those in need. Volunteer New York! makes it easy to find ways to help — through donations, supporting nonprofits and even volunteering at home. Today's opportunity is Volunteers to Create Blizzard Boxes. Meals on Wheels Program & Services of Rockland is looking for people to create Blizzard Boxes that will be delivered to hungry families during emergencies. The organization said a Blizzard Box is an assortment of donated non-perishable food items packed into shoeboxes, which are then delivered to Meals on Wheels recipients in case normal food deliveries are interrupted because of weather or other emergencies. This is a year-round project, and community service hours can result. For more information, including how to put the boxes together and where they have to be delivered, or to express interest, go here.
