Dispatched at 12:35 p.m., the first NOFD company arrived on the scene of a single-family home at 2505 Delachaise St already heavily involved in flames, with residents franticly trying to escape and warn neighbors to do the same at 12:39 p.m. After conducting a primary search of the original fire building and assisting the residents of exposed properties to the left, right and rear with evacuating their premises, a second alarm was requested at 12:51 p.m. A teenage resident at 2505 Delachaise St was the first to notice the rear deck area of her home on fire. The resident stated that she notified her family to get out, called 911 and then began alerting her neighbors. Dead foliage and tree limbs spanning the rear of multiple properties is what assisted in the fire's spread. Sixteen NOFD units carrying forty-five Fire Operations personnel were dispatched to this incident, bringing it under control at 2:06 p.m. All five dwellings involved were occupied residences. The property at 2505 Delachaise was home to a family of four, another family of four lived at 2509 Delachaise and a family of five at 2513-15 Delachaise. Two people lived at 3435 Freret St and a single individual at 3437 Freret, residents at these two homes weren't at home when the fire began. The American Red Cross has been requested to the scene to assist all displaced by this incident. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported and a make-shift propane operated smoker was determined to be fire's point of origin.
