PLAINFIELD, IL — A woman was on her way to drop her children off at daycare Thursday morning when her car's brakes malfunctioned, and the car crashed into the building, police said. Police responded to The Children's Courtyard, located near the intersection of West 127th Street and South 248th Avenue, around 6:39 a.m. after receiving a call about a car hitting the building. The driver told officers she tried braking, but when she couldn't stop the car, it went over the curb and hit the daycare building, police told Patch. No children were injured because of the crash, officials said. At the time, the daycare had not yet opened, and the two staff members who were in the building were uninjured and followed the company's emergency protocol, according to Lydia Cisaruk, The Children Courtyard's director of communications. The white Infiniti SUV was towed from the scene, and police said all people involved were evaluated by paramedics and signed forms refusing treatment. The building sustained damage to some walls and windows, and the daycare closed following the crash. Safety inspectors' assessment deemed it safe to resume classes Friday, Cisaruk said. "We are working to complete repairs as quickly as possible, and are taking steps to ensure future safety on our school grounds," she told Patch in an email. "Nothing is more important to us than the safety and well-being of our children, employees and school families."
