Press release from the City of Long Beach: May 3, 2022 Long Beach, CA – The City of Long Beach has launched a Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking a vendor to provide a micro-shuttle service to support tourism, businesses and local revenue generation. The selected vendor will pilot an on-demand and fixed-route pick-up and drop-off electric-powered shuttle service for business districts, amenities, services and businesses in the Belmont Shore/Alamitos Bay and Downtown/Alamitos Beach neighborhoods to better circulate visitors throughout each service area. Now until 11 a.m. on May 25, 2022, eligible vendors are encouraged to submit proposals through the City's Vendor Portal, PlanetBids. The pilot program aims to address high-demand business corridors with a focus on neighborhoods with underutilized parking areas. The goals of the pilot program are to: Reduce car trips and promote non-automotive transportation modes for trips under three miles; Alleviate parking impacts by connecting to nearby under-utilized parking lots; Support the economic recovery of businesses in service areas; Facilitate the generation and circulation of tourism, visitors and shoppers in service areas; and Attract investment in local service sector businesses experiencing great economic impacts, revenue decline and job losses. The City also has developed an instructional video on the registration process. This program is made possible by the Long Beach Recovery Act, a plan to fund economic and public health initiatives for Long Beach residents, workers and businesses critically impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
