Aurora Man, 29, Gets 18 Years For Sexually Assaulting Girl

AURORA, IL — A 29-year-old Aurora man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after prosecutors found him guilty of sexually assaulting a family member younger than 18 years old, officials said Friday. Rene Tux Ico "took advantage of a situation, raping a young family member who trusted him," Assistant State's Attorney Lori Schmidt said in a statement. "The victim was new to the United States and highly vulnerable, yet the defendant thought only of himself, knowing his actions were criminal. He seemed more concerned about getting caught than his victim's well-being." During a trial, Schmidt presented evidence that showed Tux Ico, of the 400 block of Hinman Street, sexually assaulted the girl between June 2019 to July 2020, officials said. The 29-year-old exchanged a guilty plea to a Class X felony offense of aggravated criminal sexual assault for nearly two decades in the Illinois Department of Corrections, officials said. He will receive credit for the 621 days he has served in the Kane County jail, where he has been held in lieu of a $1 million bail. "I hope the victim feels that justice has been done," Schmidt said. "She has experienced a lot of trauma, particularly for someone her age." On top of Tux Ico's prison sentence, he must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act. The assistant state's attorney also thanked several law enforcement officials and medical staff for their help with the case. "My thanks to the staff at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora for recognizing that something was amiss and calling the police," she said. "Thanks also to Det. Jen Hillgoth of the Aurora Police Department, Kasandra Osorio, a forensic interviewer at the Kane County Child Advocacy Center, and victim advocate Cindy Barrett."
