MOUNT VERNON, NY — Some Mount Vernon City school leaders are taking salary freezes as part of their response to the new coronavirus pandemic and its affect on the local, state and national economy, News 12 reports. In a statement, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kenneth R. Hamilton said he and a leadership team of administrators and staff had volunteered. Hamilton has also asked the Mount Vernon community to lobby officials on behalf of education, News 12 reported. Read the report on News12 Hudson Valley. The two-month shutdown has devastated New York's economy, thrown millions of people out of work and caused the tax revenues on which education aid is based to drop precipitously, Gov. Andrew Cuomo has said. He said state aid to schools could be at least 20 percent less than expected.
