MOUNT VERNON, NY — Mount Vernon police found two people who had been run over at 10:48 p.m. Oct. 1 when they responded to Grove Street after getting a call about gunshot victims. One victim, later identified as Romo Jeffress, was pronounced dead on arrival by paramedics. Jeffress, 43, was a city resident. The other victim, a 35-year-old Mount Vernon resident, suffered injuries to his leg and shoulder. There were no suspects at the scene. Calling it a case of vehicular homicide, the Mount Vernon Police Department Detective Division announced it had identified the driver as Jalen Marin after long work hours and the combined efforts of multiple units. On Wednesday, the 26-year-old Mount Vernon resident turned himself in to detectives accompanied by his attorney, Alix Duroseaul Jr, Esq. Marin was charged with Manslaughter in the First Degree and Assault in the First Degree. He has no prior criminal history, police said. Because the investigation continues, some information cannot be disseminated at this time, police said.
