Job Location: Chicago, Belmont Harbor and/or 31st Street Harbor (Must live close by and/or have reliable transportation) Carefree Boat Club is looking for friendly, responsible dockhand to join our crew! If you love being outside, near the water and can make a great first impression, we want you to be our dock hand!  We have a fun upbeat staff and are looking for someone who is:  A friendly person with a positive attitude  Able to meet, greet & speak in front of groups with ease  Able to think on your feet & adapt to different situations Able to interact with various types of people & personalities Able to work weekends & evenings & early mornings in varying weather conditions Ready to work Mid-May through to the 1st week of October (possibility for more hours through October) Experienced with boats, local waterways preferred but willing to train the right person! Who we are & what we need!  Carefree Boat Club offers members unlimited access to luxury boats without the hassle of owning. We take care of all maintenance, cleaning, and fueling. Whether you’re going out with friends, family, water skiing, or watching the Navy Pier fireworks, our team is ready to help you make memories!  The dockhand is the first contact our members associate with each day. Although the dockhand has specific daily job duties, it is essential that the dockhand assist club members and their guests with the highest degree of courtesy and professionalism. The member's boating and overall club experience begins at the dock with the dockhand. What Your Shift will look like: Check weather and reservation app (smartphone required) Clean, detail, prepare several boats for member arrival, ensuring members requests are fulfilled in a timely and respectful manner Demonstrate to members how to use the boat / equipment, and answer questions. Assess the boat for damage before and after excursion. You will be responsible for filling out a check in/out form, and charging fuel usage using a POS iPad. Basic math and intermediate technology knowledge is required Assist members with boarding/disembarking boats, casting off/securing lines Communicate timing, and local waterway with members throughout their boating trip. This requires texts and phone calls using your personal smartphone.  Confidently maneuver boats in and out of slips, to and from fuel dock, and around the harbor. You will be responsible for filling different types/sizes of boats with fuel, and if necessary pumping out waste. Ability to park a boat in a slip or along a dock is essential (we will provide training) Enjoy the outdoors! While you are required to be close to the dock throughout the shift, you will have some downtime for personal recreation. Many of our staff will get in their workout on the dock, or soak up the sun with a good book for 30 minutes,. Some days are busier than others, breaks are assigned with discretion from your manager We are looking applicants with a range of availabilities. wheather you're looking for something very part time (7 hours/week), something in the middle (15-20hrs a week), or looking to contribute 30 hours+, we want to hear from you!! Compensation $14.35/hr + tips (typically $30-$60/shift)  Bonus/commission when you spot boat damage caused by a member. Free on the water power boat training with a licensed captain. (Sailing lessons may be available) Opportunity to build relationships with harbor staff, other boaters, mechanics, and captains  Free CPR Certification Class if desired Personal boat trips will  be available with permission from the dock manager   We recognize that people come with a wealth of experience and talent beyond just the technical requirements of a job.
