WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington reported eight active coronavirus cases at the CareOne nursing home, Friday, the first outbreak at one of the town's long-term care facilities since June. The cases appear to be residents who were admitted to the facility while incubating the virus, CareOne said in a statement. The company has not identified any community spread within the facility. "Recently, several residents admitted from local hospitals and the community tested positive within 14 days of admission to CareOne at Wilmington," CareOne said. "The timing of these positive tests make it more likely than not that these residents were incubating the virus at the time of admission." Affected patients were transferred to a stand-alone coronavirus unit at CareOne at Newton, the company said. According to protocol, every patient admitted to a CareOne facility undergoes testing and a 14-day quarantine period. At the height of the town's virus outbreak in the spring, dozens of residents of three facilities had the virus. Thirty-one people died at CareOne, according to state data. Another 30 died at AdviniaCare, which reported Thursday that it did not have any active cases. The Health Department also reported 10 active positives outside of nursing homes and nine residents in quarantine for potential exposure, Friday. Four of the cases were in the same household, but otherwise there was "no real link between cases." Two were connected to an outbreak at Brigham and Women's Hospital.
