Wilmington Reports 27 Active Positives, Most Since May

WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington has 27 active positive cases of the coronavirus, the most since May, the Health Department reported Monday. Another 36 residents are in quarantine for potential exposure. Outside of long-term care facilities, the town has not had this many cases since May 6. Including 21 long-term care cases, the town had 38 cases as of May 26. The case update comes a day after school officials decided to make Wilmington High School remote for the next two weeks, following an indoor house party. The Health Department had difficulty contact tracing the party, due to non-cooperation from attendees, the officials said. According to a letter from school officials, 25-30 students attended the party. Masking and social distancing rules were not followed. The Health Department plans to share an age breakdown of the current active cases, it said on Facebook. The town was designated a moderate-risk community by the state, Thursday, after a gradual increase in cases from lows over the summer.
