Help install the Veterans' headstones and return their names to Westminster!
Over 280 individuals from all walks of life rest in historic Ellsworth Cemetery. Founded by six Veterans of the Civil War, Ellsworth Cemetery provided a burial ground for the African Americans in that city.
Working with the Veterans Administration, we have received seven (and maybe more!) headstones for Veterans of the Civil War and of World War I. Their gravesites have been unmarked for decades. We need help to install these stones.
Additionally, a number of footstones and plot markers need resetting and releveling, and general spring clean-up is needed. Training will be provided. Please bring work gloves, water, snacks, shovels and other gardening gear, if you can!
Ellsworth Cemetery is located on Leidy Road near Westminster. Our work will begin at 9 a.m. Use "847 Leidy Road" for GPS directions. Parking is available across the street.
If you cannot attend, you can still support the restoration of the cemetery by donating to the Ellsworth Cemetery fund at the Community Foundation. You can donate via PayPal: http://carrollcommunityfoundation.org/funds.asp?fund_id=365
