Description

Join JASON Learning for STEM learning, collaboration, and inspiration! The Knowledge Economy & Innovations in STEM June 22nd & 23rd: 7:30am-4:30pm Eastern Target Audience: Educators, Coaches, Curriculum & Instructional Leaders, Grades PK-12. Increased interconnectivity and innovation are rapidly changing our technologies, industries, processes, and even the way we live, work, and relate to each other. In both our personal and professional lives, we depend more and more on automated systems, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and new, innovative applications and technologies - all of which are imagined and designed by individuals who understand the fundamentals of how things work. Critical to thriving in this knowledge economy - where knowing and understanding drives innovation and advancement - are STEM habits of mind and life skills like analytical thinking, creativity, complex problem-solving, leadership and social influence, systems analysis and evaluation, resilience, stress management, and flexibility. When students can apply STEM thinking to solve real world problems in their local communities, learning comes alive. Engaging with local businesses, organizations, and individuals provides opportunities for students to apply learning, figure out solutions to complex problems, and make positive contributions to society. Community support and buy-in is essential. This year’s regional conference in Portsmouth, VA offers opportunities for district leadership and educators alike to come together and explore, learn, and share ways to provide our students meaningful experiences that will help them thrive in the knowledge economy and be connected into the community. Sessions will highlight how JASON can be leveraged to: Develop STEM literacy & Habits of Mind in early childhood (PK-2).Increase community engagement through design thinking challenges.Build student confidence and practice with experimentation, data collection and analysis, critical thinking, and teamwork & collaboration.Implement interdisciplinary lessons and PBLs that help students make connections between science disciplines, core subjects, and the real world.
